An exceptionally well written cozy mystery! I have been wanting to read D. S. Lang’s books for a while now. After reading The Vintage Valentine A Doro Banyon Cozy Historical Short Story, I fell in love with the story and characters and immediately moved the Doro Banyon series to the top of my TBR list. Immediately, I realized this is an unputdownable series. Everything about the plot is amazing. From being set in the midwest, to based on a female heroine who is educated and determined to build her career while still being family/friend oriented, to having a leading mean who slowly learns to trust the heroine and her best friend. Everything about it is absolute aces!
I adore the midwest town setting. Being a midwest girl, it pulls at the heartstrings for me, especially since I now live in the south. This is the first cozy mystery series, set in the midwest, that I have had the pleasure of reading.
All of the main characters are simply wonderful. Doro is a strong willed, well educated, no nonsense woman who has worked hard to make a way for herself in the world. She is essentially an obstinate headstrong girl; she knows what she wants and she has worked her butt off to achieve it. Mallow is a strong leading man. From beginning his new job early, to having to help with his old job, and learning to allow himself to trust others, allows for the read to adore him. Aggie is simply enjoyable. She is sweet, hard working, dedicated, and loyal. The history between Aggie and Doro gives such a positive dimension to the story. Let’s not forget Tee. Tee is the link that was missing in Doro life. To find out what I mean, you’ll have to read the book.
I can honestly say that there are few books/series that I have read that have engrossed me as much as this series has. This series does not contain distracting subplots, or varying points of view, or storylines that just die out. This is why this series is now one of my favorites. It is so well written, that everything encircles the main plot/storyline. It pulls you in and leaves you wanting more, you don’t want to put it down. The characters are incredibly enjoyable and the storyline is absolutely riveting.
Overall, I highly recommend this book. I cannot wait to continue on in the series. You must give this book a try, I promise you will love it. It is a quintessential cozy historical mystery. Aside from a couple of series I read a few months ago, I hadn’t found another marvelous series that draws you in, but D. S. Lang has reminded me of why I love the cozy historical mystery genre and I will be forever grateful to her for that.

The Murdered Matron review:
An utterly enjoyable, cozy mystery! Everything about this book is pure perfection. I love the fact that this book is set around Christmas and it encompasses the planning of the yearly Christmas celebration. One thing I really liked about this book is the fact that it takes place a few months after the previous book and the author shares a timeline update with the reader.
Throughout the series, I have fallen in love with the characters, Doro and Ev are excellent lead characters. Their ability to work together, building mutual respect, gives the storyline a well rounded aspect and provides additional insight into the characters. Aggie and Wade are excellent characters as well. I love how Wade and Ev work together seamlessly. there’s something about their mutual respect and trust for each other that makes their working together incredibly enjoyable to read about. Of course, Aggie and Doro being best friends brings such a positive aspect to the story, especially because they are always friends first, they’re always there for each other, and they each bring their own dynamics to the table that benefit each situation they face. Plus, Tee is always an important part of the storyline and an absolute treasure to read about.
This series reminds me of my favorite cozy mystery series, the Jax Diamond series, because it not only shows how the main characters work with each other, but also how they work with the other characters in the story. For instance, Doro and Aggie are often together, much like Wade and Ev; but you also see Doro and Wade or Wade and Aggie, etc. This add so much dimension to the story because it allows for the main focus to shift between characters, deepening character development and strengthening the overall storylines. Also, there’s never any distracting plots, differing points of view, or side plots that dead end. Everything is pertinent to the plot, main storyline, and holds your attention from the beginning to the very end. Leaving you guessing the bad guys, up until the moment they’re revealed.
The Doro Banyon series has quickly become one of my favorites and I’m highly addicted to it. So far, read two books in three days and about to start the next book. It’s literally an unputdownable cozy mystery!
Overall, I highly recommend The Murdered Matron, and the Doro Banyon series. It’s not everyday you find a series that is this good. Take this as your sign and start reading it today!

The Jammed Judges review:
The Jammed Judges is an excellent addition to the Doro Banyon series! This series has a cinematic quality to it; for me, as I am reading it, I can see it playing out as if it were a movie. One thing I love most about this series is that the focus is around the four main characters, with a supporting characters filtering in and out. Often times, cozy mysteries can get lost in the weeds with an over abundance of characters being the main focus, but this series stays focused on Doro, Aggie, Ev, and Wade, making it a joy to read.
The characters in this book are as enjoyable as they have been in the previous books. The character development is exceptional. The Jammed Judges largely focuses on Doro and Aggie, showing the depth of their friendship, their mutual trust, and the lengths they will go to solve a mystery.
Overall, The Jammed Judges is a quintessential cozy mystery, that I highly recommend. I love that the D. S. Lang brings more mystery into her books. The fact that this series is a cozy mystery, with a strong focus on mystery, makes it incredibly enjoyable to read. Throughout reading the Doro Banyon series, you will find yourself thinking and not being able to pull your thoughts away from the mystery until you finish it.
